Helpful Info #2 -Preping a Distribution Image
Delete By: stevo (stevo20) - 2007-06-19 08:01
BACKGROUND: There are so many articles on the web about prepping and cloning XP systems for distribution, that it can be a little overwhelming, and even worse, confusing.
So I have done my best to find, filter, and organise the most practical FREE solutions available. You might be surprised to know that Microsoft is the biggest contributor =)
REQUIREMENT:
-If you will be using Clonezilla to make an image for "NON LOCAL" distribution, (to a different computer system) with IDENTICAL HARDWARE, then you will most likely need to change your Security Identifier (SID) and this info will be helpful for security purposes only.
-If you will be moving your Clonezilla image to a system with DIFFERENT HARDWARE, then the info listed here will be required to have a functional XP system.
NOTE1: All the steps (except Step1) contained in the thread "Helpful Info #1" should also be performed before you begin this process.
NOTE2: Most of this info also applies to Windows 2000.
***For a Windows XP (or Windows 2000) installation it is highly recommended to use Microsoft's System Preparation (SysPrep) tool to change the SID and prep the system for booting***
